No Lie! No Gas!!
Foothill Cultural District June Festivities
SALT LAKE CITY, UT – For those who are looking for a “No lie: No gas” kind of summer experience, the eight Foothill Cultural District’s entertainment and education attractions usher in June with a flourish.
And guess what? No gas is required. All venues are accessible by TRAX or UTA bus service. And thanks to Foothill Cultural District’s latest partner, the SALT LAKE CONNECT PASS CITY TOUR, you can leave your car at home or in the hotel parking lot. For the price of one all-day City Tour Pass, Gray Line’s new guided tour will link together the Downtown and Foothill Cultural District attractions, where riders can “hop-on and hop-off” at their leisure to visit any of the attractions along the way. With the pass, admission to the venues is free.
As part of its welcome to summer in Salt Lake City, the diverse and exciting venues feature a range of family-oriented activities – all designed to amaze and astound visitors of all ages.
Perhaps nowhere west of the Rocky Mountains are so many challenging and delightful pastimes offered in just a mere two and a half square miles.
Here are just a few of the wide range of amusements offered during the month of June – and well into the summer months ahead:
FORT DOUGLAS MUSEUM: Gala Fort Douglas Founders’ Day Celebration, featuring Flag Ceremony, Motorcycle Rally, military vehicle exhibition, USO Show with Big Band Swing Music, and collaborative Buffalo Soldiers reenactment (see This is the Place Heritage Park, below). Saturday, June 14 all day. Public free.

THIS IS THE PLACE HERITAGE PARK: Along with Fort Douglas, This is the Place Heritage Park celebrates the U.S. Military with music and a reenactment of historical Buffalo Soldiers battle scenes and Village Interpretations throughout the day. Saturday, June 14, all day.
RED BUTTE GARDEN & ARBORETUM: The Summer Concert Series premieres July 11 with Wynton Marsalis and the Lincoln Jazz Center Orchestra. Emmylou Harris follows on July 20; Garrison Keilor and the Prairie Home Companion’s Rhubarb Tour appear on August 19; and Bonnie Raitt is the featured guest artist August 26. Tickets go on sale June 2.
OLYMPIC CAULDRON PARK: On the eve of the opening of the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing, it’s fun to reminisce about the 2002 Winter Olympics in Salt Lake City with a visit to the Olympic Cauldron Park at the U’s Rice Eccles Stadium. The Park is free to the public and open daily.
UNIVERSITY GUEST HOUSE AND CONFERENCE CENTER: This hotel, adjacent to historic Fort Douglas and nestled in the foothills is the prime location for accessing all of the education and entertainment venues in the Foothill Cultural District. Check out the Guest House’s special rate to FCD visitors.
